In a heartfelt Facebook post, Dedman expressed that his grandfather, Fred Lamar, holds a special place as his best friend. Motivated by a desire to gift something extraordinary for Fred’s birthday, Dedman embarked on the challenging undertaking, emphasizing the difficulty of keeping the entire restoration a secret. To fund the project, Dedman even parted with his own car, meticulously saving for years before commencing the restoration.
While discussions about restoring the car had been a recurring theme in their conversations, Dedman’s busy life had always hindered the realization of the project. Determined to fulfill a long-standing goal, Dedman aimed to complete the restoration covertly in time for Fred’s 81st birthday.
In early 2020, Dedman unveiled the fully restored vintage car at a special gathering. To heighten the drama of the moment, he drove the car to his sister’s house, blindfolding family members to build anticipation.
Upon revealing the masterpiece to his grandfather, Dedman was met with a profoundly emotional reaction. Fred, initially in disbelief, welled up with tears, prompting Cam to assist him in remaining upright. Fred expressed astonishment, unable to fathom that the impeccably restored car was indeed his cherished old Chevy.
