A police officer dedicated to helping the Harrison family even inspired Mayor Walid Lake to ask the community on local news if they could come together to brainstorm a long-term solution for them.
A father was watching the news with his children and asking if their family could help in some way. The father, named Eddy Osram, is a local business owner who owns a marathon store in town. WXYZ-TV spoke to Detroit about his family’s desire to help:
“That’s when I said, ‘Let me see what I can do.'”
Osram immediately reached out to other local business owners to see if they could help as well. WXYZ-TV said in Detroit, “A bunch of them said ‘all it takes’.” The community came together to provide the family with clothes, household items, etc.
In total, over $2,500 was raised, and one generous stranger even offered to take the twins $1,000 shopping for new clothes and items they’ll need when they find a new home.
A resident wanted to help because he was in a similar situation growing up. He told the local news station:
“I come from a similar situation, I mean, without help I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Meanwhile, the Osram children wanted to donate their savings for the Harrison twins, which amounted to $341. osram said:
“Each of us whenever we need help, we come together to help each other.”
The outpouring of support for Harrison from her community was so overwhelming that she could barely express her gratitude. “It makes me very happy to know that there are people who care,” she told the outlet.
She couldn’t be more grateful for all the generosity from her community, as she said she would use the money to bring her home with her family. She added:
“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means the world to my girls to be able to go somewhere.”
This story reminds us how little we really know about someone else’s situation and how a small act of kindness can really change someone’s life.
