If he breaks the law, the offender pays. But what happens if the perpetrator is actually an innocent man, one who has a family at home and has lived his life in peace, obeying the law and taking care not to stray from the path of the righteous? If you don’t believe in bad luck, then this man’s condition will make you think. He spent nearly two decades of his life behind bars for a crime he did not commit.
Richard Anthony Jones lived a normal life with his family in Missouri, working every day to provide for all the needs of the family, father, husband and a good citizen. One day some police officers visited him and arrested him for a crime he allegedly did not commit. He claimed that he did not know what was going on around him, as he was a God-fearing, humble man who worked a lot for his family.
Because fingerprints were not immediately found at the latest trial, eyewitnesses confirmed his guilt of armed robbery and he began serving his sentence in a maximum-security prison in 1999. He’s gotten used to the thought. In the end, it seemed like the system was against him. Richard was often mistaken in prison for a man who, according to the internees he met there, appeared to be his twin brother. Plus, they both have the same first name.
After discovering all these horrifying details, the man tried to appeal and ex officio explain to the lawyer what he had heard in prison, but no one listened to him. After the appeal, the lawyer handling his case provided photos of the “twins,” a man who looked exactly like Richard. They realized that the criminal was walking around there.
The innocent man was released in 2016 after serving 17 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He was able to see his newborn daughter in her true glory at the time of his sentencing, a beautiful 17-year-old. This man has been through very hard times and due to one mistake he almost spent his life in jail while the real criminal was at it who knows what misery there. A lot of people would go crazy if they were in his place. Share this great story!
