A little sea lion named Amber found herself in a tough situation near Laguna Beach in Orange County, California. Thankfully, she found help when she swam towards Hugo Zusho’s boat.
The people on the boat quickly filmed the event as Amber attempted to climb the ladder attached to the side of the boat. After a few failed attempts, someone on the boat angled the ladder like a ramp, and they were able to bring Amber on board.
Despite the potential danger of a wild animal bite, they took Amber straight to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach.
The plight of sea lions highlights the daily challenges faced by wild animals due to habitat degradation, particularly from plastic pollution. It is crucial to take steps towards reducing, reusing, and recycling waste to protect marine life.
Despite their small size, young sea lions, or “puppies,” can weigh between 13 and 20 pounds, and adults can weigh up to 800 pounds and reach up to 8 feet in length. Amber’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of helping and protecting wild animals.
