When questioned about the inspiration behind transforming Michael Bublé’s song into a Christmas carol, Blake Shelton shared his thoughts with CBS News.

“We ended up singing it together a few times in his concerts, and we filmed a David Foster special where we sang the song together,” he explained. “I had the idea of doing a Christmas version of ‘Home’ because the song would kind of lend itself to the holidays anyway. That’s when you really miss home.”

Originally not intended to be a Christmas song, Shelton’s creativity and ingenuity led him to craft a rendition that poignantly addresses the melancholy felt when one is away—making it a fitting tribute for the courageous military troops.

“Another Christmas day will come and go away. And I won’t leave you alone, I’m gonna go home, I’m gonna be home. Though I’m surrounded by this cold December night, I feel so alone. I’m gonna go home, Babe, I miss you, you know,” Shelton and Bublé performed these heartfelt lyrics on Bublé’s 2012 Christmas special titled “Michael Bublé Home for the Holidays.”

Despite their friendship and past collaborations, Shelton initially hesitated to approach Bublé with the idea of re-arranging the beloved song into a Christmas rendition.

“I felt really stupid asking that question because he is Michael Bublé,” Shelton confessed.

The Christmas version of “Home” was subsequently featured on Shelton’s seventh studio album and his inaugural Christmas album, titled “Cheers, It’s Christmas.” The album also showcased other renowned holiday tunes such as “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Blue Christmas,” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”
