As De Martini recounted, the night a terrible accident happened, she began to feel emotional and have tears in her eyes. She explained how Herbie was agitated and meowing loudly, which De Martini initially ignored, but soon realized was not his usual behavior.
After following him as he led her to her young daughter’s bedroom, the social worker explained how she found her daughter in a terrifying situation and heard Isabella make a ‘choking sound’ with a blanket blocking his face. DeMartini jumped into protective mother pose and helped her daughter catch her breath, with heroic cat Herbie by her side.
Although years had passed since that moment, DeMartini was still mired in the narrative of that night. Just as DeMartini saved Herbie from a shelter, he saved his child’s life. “I knew then that he wasn’t a caretaker, he was my family,” De Martini said, explaining how Herbie had become a full-time member of the family.
Later in the segment, DeMartini and Galaxy went to her daughter’s bedroom, where Isabella looked at the heroic cat and said, “I love you, Herbie,” and the animal happily responded. Galaxy also encouraged its viewers to do their part to save animals, saying, “Go save an animal because it will probably save you.”
