Roadie, the German shepherd, was left alone as she wandered the streets of Franklin, Indiana, with a note in a bottle stuck to her neck. She was sitting under a tree and she didn’t know what to do when someone saw her and decided to help her.
They contacted Johnson County Animal Control and manager Michael Delp rushed to find her. The note said that Roadie was loved and cared for by her family, but that her father had lost his job due to COVID-19 and will soon lose his home as well.
The dog was in perfect health, she just needed a home. After an investigation, it turned out to be legitimate that the owner had been through a difficult time and they reached out to get this person the help they needed.
And it was Jeremy Pell, Chief of the White River Township Fire Department and Deputy Sheriff’s Reserve, who saw Roadie on the news and thought she would be perfect for opening search and rescue dogs. He went to the shelter, and the sweet girl passed all the tests and she gained a new life doing it!
Roadie is now passing by Rosie Grace and goes to work every day with her new dad! She sleeps near her desk and works on her social skills and obedience training when the time comes. It is still the beginning of the training, but they hope that one day Rosie Grace will be able to work alongside her father in the community. Surprising!
