In 2018, Mike initiated the legal adoption process for Camryn, solidifying their father-daughter bond three years later. In a heartwarming twist in June 2021, he chose to unveil the joyous news at her school, proudly displaying a banner declaring, “I gave you my heart 5 years ago and now I give you my last name!”

As Camryn approached the bustling scene in the school hallway, her initial confusion transformed into a radiant smile upon reading the sign. She hurried towards Mike, who enveloped her in a tight embrace, his face reflecting profound emotions.

Reflecting on the moment, Mike shared, “Seeing Camryn’s face—she broke down, and in turn, I broke down.” He emphasized that adoption, for him, symbolized a promise to always stand by her side, love her unconditionally, and emphasize that their connection was no accident.

Mike’s primary goal was to ensure Camryn had a steadfast support system. He expressed, “To be able to provide that for Camryn gives me closure and, at the same time, offers her the assurance of having someone unwavering in her corner, and that someone is me, her dad.”

In a message of encouragement to fellow step-parents who may feel overlooked, Mike shared, “To all the step-parents, I understand the challenges of sometimes feeling like the third wheel at games, but you show up anyway. Know that you are appreciated, valued, and making a significant difference in these kids’ lives. Our children can never have enough people in their corner.”
