A hearing-impaired woman named Rachel Hollis had a humiliating experience at a Burger King drive-thru in Oklahoma when she was refused service. Despite typing her order on her phone and handing it to the employee, she received a piece of paper that said, “I can’t do a full order at the window. It’s too busy.” The employee then slammed the window and started yelling, which Rachel recorded on her phone. He expected her to leave, but she stayed put, and he eventually told her to come inside and then called the police. Rachel was left overwhelmed and in tears, feeling discriminated against. She didn’t want to show any weakness in front of the rude employee, but once she left, she couldn’t hold back her emotions. “I’ve never experienced anything like that, for someone to call the police. That’s crazy, it just doesn’t seem right,” she told KFOR. Unfortunately, people with disabilities are often not treated with empathy, and Rachel’s experience is a stark reminder of the discrimination they still face in today’s society.
