A heart-wrenching incident occurred when someone left a female dog and her nine puppies in a locked box, leaving them with no chance to escape. The box was then abandoned at the Ponzi Lake landfill in British Columbia, Canada, where a Good Samaritan discovered it and reported the matter to the authorities. This act of kindness proved to be a turning point for the neglected family of dogs.
Upon inspection, it was found that the mother was undernourished, and her puppies were only a week old. Despite her poor health, the mother struggled to provide for her young ones. The Good Samaritan took the entire family to the veterinarian where they were provided with one night of care before being sent to the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA). Unfortunately, at the time, there was no foster family available to take care of them, so the family was moved to the Quesnel and District branch of BC SPCA.
The mother was named Casey and has been doing her best to look after her puppies since arriving at the shelter. She is gradually getting healthier, which will enable her to provide better support for her young ones. Although initially hesitant and nervous around other animals, Casey is kind and gentle once she warms up to someone. Clearly, the poor dog has been through a lot in her life.
The BC SPCA staff is currently caring for Casey and her puppies until the puppies are at least seven weeks old. Only then will they be offered for adoption. Meanwhile, the BC SPCA is trying to identify the culprit responsible for abandoning this innocent dog family in such a cruel way.
