For the third game of the NHL Western Conference finals in 2017, Keith Urban was bestowed with the honor of performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the game, marking his debut rendition of the US national anthem.

The New Zealand-born, Australian-raised singer shared on Twitter (with his wife, Kidman, by his side) that despite residing in the United States for 25 years at that point, he had never been approached to sing the national anthem until the Nashville Predators extended the invitation.

Fans were treated to Urban’s live performance, marking a significant career milestone for the star, while simultaneously witnessing the Predators take a 2-1 lead against the Anaheim Ducks in the series.

Sporting a Nashville Predators jersey, Urban joined the ranks of country music stars who had sung the national anthem before the team’s home games. During the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs, artists like Underwood, Vince Gill, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, and Lady A had all graced Bridgestone Arena with their renditions of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” While fans were thrilled to hear Urban, the privilege was equally his.

One commenter praised Urban’s performance, stating, “Well done by Keith. Awesome to see some of the popular Singers from Nashville contribute to Hockey.” Another commenter expressed heartfelt admiration, saying:

“That was beautiful, Keith. Your sincerity and passion really come across, as in everything you sing. You have a real connection with your audience. It’s as if your heart is singing directly to our hearts. My heart is touched every time I hear you sing. Your love for America, the place where you have made your home, and have found longed-for success and fulfillment is palpable. God bless you, Keith Urban.”
