Brody has been to the doctor countless times, but Julia couldn’t get answers about what happened with her son. Finally, the young boy was diagnosed with a Chiari III malformation, which causes defects in the part of the brain that controls balance. Brody must live with severe chronic pain and struggle to walk.
He only started speaking last year after undergoing surgery to remove some of the pressure in his brain.
Because Brody is very sensitive to sun exposure, he would never play outside like other kids his age. It’s especially difficult for Brody because he loves the beach and the ocean. Despite being in constant pain, being trapped inside is arguably the hardest part of Brody’s illness.
Brody burns himself so easily that a short drive from home to the hospital often leaves blisters on his face. In addition, it must be powered via the electric backpack connected to it at all times.
Although this equipment saves his life, it also prevents him from participating in recreational activities such as swimming.
In 2017, Julia was contacted by the Make A Wish Foundation, who asked her what Brody would want if he could have one. Two years later, Brody’s wish came true on a beautiful sunny day.
