Johnny Jet is a travel blogger who has spent the last 23 years traveling the globe and writing about his experiences.

As someone who flies all the time, Johnny knows virtually everything about proper airplane etiquette. That’s why when he heard that there was a soldier on his American Airlines flight, he did not hesitate to offer his first-class seat to him.

“I heard the flight attendant say something about a soldier, and I looked up and I saw his uniform and I was like, ‘Oh my God,’” Johnny recounted.

After asking the flight attendant if he could give up his seat to the soldier, Johnny approached him personally to offer him his first class seat. The stunned soldier shook Johnny’s hand and said thank you, and that was pretty much the end of it at the time.

Six years later, Johnny was stunned when he checked his blog one day and saw that he had gotten an anonymous note from the soldier that he had given up his seat for all those years before.

“I was the solider you gave your seat to,” the note read. “The story of your unbelievable generosity I have shared with my friends and family many times. It was something that I will never forget and although some may say it was just a seat or you may have felt it wasn’t much, for me it was symbolic.

To this day it remains the only time I ever flew 1st class and I cherish the memory of the time a stranger who loved his service men and women so much that without regard to onlookers reminded me why I was going over to fight for the next year and a half.”

Johnny was so touched by the note that he did not know what to say at first. He eventually responded, “Wow. Thank you for your service and the kindest email I have ever received.”
