In upstate New York, Sean and Josie Kelly live happily with their seven children. Three of these young people suffer from a serious illness known as Alagille syndrome.

The medical disease affects organs such as the heart, kidneys and liver. Ongoing medical treatment becomes necessary to monitor their health.

Sawyer Kelly is a newborn baby who experienced serious complications from this disease. To live, he needed a liver transplant. Without a liver transplant, Sawyer would not live more than a year of his life. So the family announced their status and created a GoFundMe account to cover the expenses.

They also asked for someone to offer to be a “living donor”. The liver, unlike other organs, can rebuild itself. Therefore, a person can donate part of their liver to someone in need.

Sean Kelly asked the doctors if he could be a donor. Doctors said it was possible if he fit, and that he needed to lose 40 pounds before he could make a decision. Sean had to lose weight to undergo the necessary assessment process.

Sean immediately took the drastic measures necessary to lose a lot of weight. It was tough, but Sean was able to lose 40 pounds according to Goodmorning America. It has been assessed and found to be compliant.
