In 2010, Maya, a 35-year-old elephant, was rescued by Wildlife SOS, as stated on the organization’s website. Maya had spent the majority of her life as a circus performer, forced to entertain audiences by dancing under the threat of a stick and standing on two legs. It is evident that Maya had endured severe abuse throughout her circumstances.

Fortunately, Wildlife SOS intervened and provided Maya with a new lease on life. Once she was rescued from the circus and placed under the care of Wildlife SOS, the organization ensured her well-being and recovery, as documented on their website. Maya received proper attention for her injuries and malnutrition, including immune boosters and footbaths to aid in the healing of her injured footpads.

Today, Maya enjoys a vastly improved existence at the Wildlife SOS sanctuary, where she can freely roam alongside other rescued elephants, basking in the newfound freedom and companionship
