The person who filmed the horrific incident was elderly and disabled and could not help others.

Moments after the video ended, a fourth man, identified by media as Eric Roda, ran ashore to help the trio. He told reporters the retired couple had been in the water for more than 10 minutes before reaching safety.

The three were treated in hospital after the accident and fortunately their injuries were not serious.

Experts advise anyone facing a similar emergency not to attempt to go in the water after it. Chances are you’ll overwhelm yourself. Instead, contact emergency services immediately for help.

They were all very lucky! This is an important safety reminder for anyone visiting the beach, whether with your family or walking your dog, always pay attention to the sea in winter and stay a safe distance from the beach.
