After almost eight decades of being apart, siblings Beryl and Bill finally reunited thanks to a chance discovery in 2019. Beryl and Bill were separated as children and had lost touch over the years. They had no idea where the other was until fate intervened. In 2019, a CSIRO research vessel Investigator located the wreck of their father’s ship, the Iron Crown, which had sunk decades ago. A memorial was organized for the descendants of the crew members, and more than 50 family members attended the event. The news of the memorial reached Bill, who was determined to locate his sister. Together with the help of a distant relative, Kylie Watson, they posted a notice in a local newspaper in Adelaide. To their surprise, they received a phone call from Beryl on the same day, and their emotional reunion soon followed. “I cried when I heard Billy was alive,” Beryl said of the moment she found out her brother was still alive. “I couldn’t get into Bill’s arms quick enough, we just hugged one another, and we couldn’t let each other go.” The siblings began calling each other every day, and they were overjoyed to have found each other after all these years. Their reunion serves as a heartwarming reminder of the importance of family and the impact it has on our lives. Beryl and Bill’s story is a testament to the fact that even after many years of separation.
