Donna and Karl von Schwartz stuck together through thick and thin. High school sweethearts, the two married in 1956 and are now in their 80s. Donna and Karl are the hottest thing to their granddaughter Christina von Schwartz of Heath, Texas, who often posts pictures of them on her social media accounts.
Each of Christina’s photos shows the two smiling and having a really good time. Christina says the two are inspiring because even after 63 years of marriage, they are still in love and have an inspiring relationship.
Donna and Karl’s love became more important this year as Donna faced many health issues. The 85-year-old grandmother suffered multiple strokes, cerebral hemorrhages, and open-heart surgery within a year.
Doctors even warned that Donna might not live long. Christina says Donna’s health problems have been very heartbreaking for the family. Speaking to reporters, Christina said that every time she said goodbye to her beloved grandmother, she feared that it would be the last time she would see her.
Through it all, Carl has remained steadfast by Donna’s side, a constant companion. Before his last operation, Karl promised his beloved wife that if she succeeded, he would buy her a new engagement ring.
Donna Carl carried this promise, as the two went to a store with Christina to pick up a new ring. Finding the perfect piece, Karl got on his knees and asked Donna to be his wife. Donna quickly agreed, and Carl put the ring on her finger.
