French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, are set to present photographic and scientific evidence in a U.S. court to confirm the first lady’s gender.

The evidence is part of a defamation lawsuit against conservative influencer Candace Owens, who alleged that Brigitte Macron was assigned male at birth and later transitioned.

The Macrons’ attorney, Tom Clare, told the BBC’s Fame Under Fire podcast that expert testimony, including scientific analysis, will be presented during the case.

Candace Owens has claimed that Brigitte Macron was born male.

The Macrons’ attorney did not provide detailed specifics about the evidence, other than noting it will include photographs of Brigitte, now 72, from when she was pregnant with their children.

Clare emphasized that the French couple is prepared to prove the allegations are false, “both generically and specifically.”

“It is incredibly upsetting to have to present this kind of proof,” he said, highlighting the distress it has caused the first lady.

The Macrons’ attorney, Tom Clare, described Candace Owens’ claims as “upsetting” for the couple.

“It is a process that she will have to undergo in a very public way. But she’s willing to do it. She is firmly resolved to do what it takes to set the record straight,” Clare said.

Owens has repeatedly asserted, without evidence, that Brigitte Macron, 72, was born male. Earlier this year, she stated on her podcast that she “would stake my entire professional career on all of those points.”

In response, the Macrons filed a lawsuit against Owens in Delaware in July, alleging that she “disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim in favor of platforming known conspiracy theorists and proven defamers.”

Owens’ claims echo allegations previously made in France by two women whom Brigitte Macron sued in 2021. That case was initially decided in the first lady’s favor but was later overturned on appeal. She has since taken the matter to France’s highest appeals court.

Brigitte Macron was 39 years old when she became the teacher of the future French president, Emmanuel Macron, who was 15 at the time in 1993. The couple married in 2007.
