Roberto Gaspar, 25, was looking down at his phone on a No. 7 train when a smiling stranger stabbed him multiple times, police and sources said.
Gaspar was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens Hospital, where his friend Tomas Calel, 35, told The Post that he is now on a ventilator and unable to speak.
“He is in serious condition. He can’t talk,” Calel said in Spanish outside Gaspar’s Queens apartment building. “He’s in the ICU and hooked up to machines. The doctors say maybe he’ll be able to speak again. We are hoping he recovers and can talk.”
