A 27-year-old trapeze artist lost her life after falling 16 feet during a solo circus performance in Bautzen, Germany, on Saturday night. The incident occurred in front of nearly 100 spectators at the Paul Busch Circus, according to reports.
She was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday night.
Ralf Huppertz, head of Germany’s circus association, suggested that Marina may have experienced a health issue.
“Perhaps she became dizzy while on the trapeze,” he said.
Although Marina was not using a safety rope, police spokesman Stefan Heiduck emphasized that performers are not required to do so. “It’s up to the artist to decide whether to use a safety rope,” he explained.
No other performers were in the ring at the time of the incident.
She fell 16 feet while performing her routine in Bautzen, Germany.
Just weeks before the tragedy, Marina posted a photo on Instagram showing herself performing on the tightrope.
The Mallorca native had spent more than a decade honing her skills as a trapeze artist and had only recently joined the Paul Busch Circus for its upcoming tour.
In her caption, she reflected on her passion for performing: “Up here, I work best. I believe that art has the power to create unforgettable moments.”
