A third-grade teacher and mother of three died two years after being served a cocktail containing industrial cleaner, which caused severe damage to her esophagus, during a date with her husband. Oklahoma authorities are currently investigating the incident.
Holly Hill, 30, told her mother, Kelly Hunter, that her mouth felt like it was “on fire” and she immediately began vomiting after being served a margarita at a Mexican restaurant in Elgin on Valentine’s Day 2023.
“Her mouth was on fire, and she knew something wasn’t right,” Hunter said. “She immediately ran to the bathroom, started throwing up, and rinsed her mouth out with water.”
Holly Hill, a third-grade teacher and mother of three, died Thursday, two years after drinking a poisoned margarita at Hacienda Las Margaritas Bar & Grill in Oklahoma. Her family said her death was due to complications from the horrifying incident.
Hill had previously sued the restaurant over her ongoing health issues and reached a confidential settlement, according to News 9.
In the days leading up to her death, Hill underwent another procedure. Doctors found that the “hole in her esophagus wasn’t healed but it was a bit better and not as inflamed, so they were able to call in a pulmonologist to assist in stitching it up,” her mother shared on social media.
“She will have to continue tube feeds for a while longer and return in a few weeks for a swallow study with contrast to monitor progress,” her mother added.
Hill’s obituary highlighted the strength she showed over the years: “For the past two and a half years, while continuing to teach and care for her family, Holly faced a long and difficult medical journey.”
On Friday, the Elgin Police Department, in coordination with the Comanche County District Attorney, said it had contacted the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation regarding the case.
