The voices sounded like screams coming from somewhere across the lake. The couple tried to ignore the sounds, but when the jokes continued they tried to figure out who was making the sound by looking through the endoscopes. Junior told Leon he saw what looked like rolling black shapes. Friends have speculated that the characters could be wolves or other animals.
The couple went ahead with their plans for the weekend, but were surprised that sounds still echoed across the lake the next morning. Intrigued, Junior and Leon decided to take a boat ride across the lake and see what was going on. Screams went up as they approached the shore, and they were surprised to see seven small dogs screaming with hunger.
Although hungry, the puppies were also wary of the two men. Junior and Leon are back in search of food and water, feeding the puppies again and slowly trying to gain their trust.
After several days of feeding, the men were able to put the pups in kennels and transport them across the lake to an animal shelter. The seven puppies Gilligan, Ginger, Mary Ann, Mrs Howell, Professor, Skipper and the third Thurston Howell are named after characters from the TV show “Gilligan’s Island”.
Thanks to Junior and Leon’s decision to investigate the cries they heard, seven innocent puppies are saved from starvation.
