None of the lodge managers had ever encountered the elephant before, and its chosen route was unusual as elephants that regularly visit the area typically follow a stone path. Ian explained that the elephant, driven by curiosity, was determined to reach the mango tree.

Ian captured images of the hungry elephant, and the camp’s owner, Andy Hogg of The Bushcamp Company, created a video featuring the animal. Unfortunately, they couldn’t capture the elephant indulging in mangoes as they were out of season at the time.

Despite the elephant’s determined efforts, it was disheartening to realize that it didn’t attain its goal. Those at the lodge who witnessed the elephant scaling the tall wall were amazed at the level of effort it exerted that day, according to Mr. Salisbury. He also noted that climbing such heights is not a common behavior among elephants
