The authorities found him wandering about a mile from the school. According to Trevor’s Facebook post, this wasn’t the first time this kind of accident had occurred.
“This is what happens to an 11-year-old, with special needs, who is severely autistic when he collapses and is able to leave the safe campus of Lancaster School, Endeavor Middle School., about a mile away, for the third time in three weeks due to Their fatal failure to support the IEP by the administration and the district.” “Thank God our Sheriff’s Department was there to clean up the mess, but the damage was done.”
“The damage I have done to my son and the years of progress that have faltered is irreparable.”
Trevor blames the school’s failure to follow the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) set for Abraham when he was still in elementary school for the accident. The IEP said Ibrahim had to have a trained individual assistant, who would sometimes be replaced by untrained teachers. In a statement, the Lancaster School District Director said:
“While we cannot comment on the full details of this child’s services, we all agree that yesterday’s incident is deeply unfortunate for all involved and we will continue to work with the family to support this child.”
According to Trevor, Abraham goes through “melts” and therefore needs space and time to recover from each accident. However, the school staff is said to have “trapped” him instead, causing the boy to flee the school through an open door.
“They need administrators, not just individual assistants, not just dedicated teachers, but administrators who understand the extent of autism and what it means and how these children respond,” Trevor said, according to ABC7.
Since then, Abraham has been expelled from school and his father has contacted a lawyer.
