Delaney’s classmates subjected her to physical and verbal abuse to the point that her parents tried to persuade the school district to intervene. However, the region has taken very little action.

In July 2018, Delanie’s parents realized it was time to address the school district at a council meeting. They are tired of bullying and want to inspire their community leaders to get involved.

Speaking of Delaney’s story, Marcotte hoped things would change for their daughter and other students who were also bullied.

Then, this brave fifth grader settled down to sit in front of the school board, ready to share her heartbreaking story with the adult men and women in the audience.

Delaney took his father’s place and read the statement. When he finished, the room was completely silent. His strong words surely fell on deaf ears. A video of Delaney speaking has gone viral online and has been shared by hundreds of thousands of people.
