In the performance, Wednesday can be observed energetically throwing her hands in the air and executing eerie dance moves at a school dance, taking her partner by surprise.
However, the 16-year-old professional skater did more than that. She fully embraced the Wednesday persona, sporting signature pigtails, makeup, and a black party dress identical to the one Wednesday wore in the scene. It was as if she had transformed into Ortega, embodying the character’s essence.
Valieva initiated her routine with a portrayal reminiscent of emerging from a coffin, capturing Wednesday’s emotionless demeanor. As The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck” played, she flawlessly executed Wednesday’s dance moves.
The audience was enamored with every aspect of the performance.
“She actually slayed that though,” remarked one person.
“I’m crying because I love ice skating and Wednesday,” expressed another.
“This is the most satisfying thing I have ever watched,” commented a user.
According to a Billboard report, Valieva achieved a score of 247.32 points for her short program and free skate but fell short of winning the women’s senior championship division, losing out to Sofia Akateva.
This wasn’t the first time Wednesday’s iconic dance routine was recreated by a notable figure. Pop queen Lady Gaga also replicated Ortega’s dance moves in a TikTok video featuring her song “Bloody Mary” in the background. Valieva incorporated a sped-up version of Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” into her routine.
Despite not securing victory, those who witnessed Valieva’s performance believed she deserved the championship.
“She nailed Wednesday’s facial expressions! Also, that ina bauer in the start and her flexible spins fit this theme so good! And that dance! Everything! She is special,” praised one fan
