Lyft riders are upset over a new pilot feature that shows drivers how often passengers tip before accepting ride requests.
Traditionally, drivers base their decision on factors like fare amount, trip distance and duration, and the rider’s star rating.
But screenshots shared by Lyft drivers on social media reveal a small banner at the bottom of the app that now displays the percentage of rides a passenger has tipped on, as well as how frequently they are punctual and ready at pick-up.
Lyft riders are outraged over a new test feature that shows drivers how often passengers tip.
The revelation sparked an outcry on social media, with some users questioning the need to tip at all.
“Why should I or anyone else tip? Isn’t the job just driving someone from point A to point B?” one Reddit user wrote.
“Why should there be a tip involved? If the driver did something more than get me my destination, then maybe. Screw entitled drivers,” another added.
Some customers accused the company of violating privacy, while others warned, “Guess Lyft is trying hard to lose business.”
Lyft, which holds roughly 30% of the U.S. rideshare market, told news outlets it is testing the feature with a “limited number” of drivers. The company plans to analyze the data before deciding whether to expand the rollout, a spokesperson told Bloomberg and the Daily Mail.
Lyft did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
