During Zak’s wedding on April 9, 2022, the three brothers escorted their mother, who was in a wheelchair, to the dancefloor. In a video that has garnered over 3.6 million views since it was posted on the wedding planner Root to Stems’ Instagram account, twins Jake and Nick aided their mother in standing and supported her as she danced with Zak.
“I was quite apprehensive about stepping onto the dance floor, not because I doubted my boys, but because I feared being stared at,” confessed Poirier.
Throughout the dance, Poirier was visibly moved as her sons embraced her tightly.
“Once I was on the dance floor, I felt reassured by my boys,” she said. “They simply reassured me, saying, ‘Don’t worry. We’ve got you. We won’t let you fall.’ It was a moment I had long dreamed of.”
Although Zak attempted to remain composed, his emotions overwhelmed him, and he, too, struggled to hold back tears. With tears in his eyes, he expressed his love to his mother as they swayed to the music.
“I found it difficult to contain my emotions, but it was an incredible experience,” she continued, recounting to Epoch Times. “It felt liberating to share such a moment with my son during a significant milestone in his life. It was truly beautiful.”
Meanwhile, Poirier expressed her hope that the video would do more than just touch people’s hearts.
“The video aims to raise awareness about ALS because it is an unforgiving condition,” she explained. “There is insufficient awareness. I am fortunate to have supportive family and financial resources for treatment. However, it’s not just about me; it’s about all those afflicted by this disease who require assistance.”
