Alexis Swinney was on the way to a Texas hospital to give birth to her sixth baby. However, she was already in labor — and she had a feeling they probably weren’t going to make it to the hospital in time.
Her husband, Dominique, filmed the following heart-pounding video from the driver’s seat as their kids sat wide-eyed in the back.
Alexis began screaming and writhing in pain, crouching over the front seat and bearing down. “What do I do?” she frantically asked her husband.
Dominique encouraged her to try and hold on as long as she could, desperate to have the baby delivered safely at the hospital.
Meanwhile, their stunned kids watched this unbelievable scene unfolding from the back seat!
Alexis quickly reached between her legs, fearing the baby was unable to breath. And just as she instructed Dominique to pull over, Alexis gave one more huge push — and her daughter was born into her own bare hands!
Then came the sound the exhausted mom longed to hear: the sound of her baby’s cry.
“Oh my gosh,” Dominique gasped. “Oh my goodness. We just delivered a baby in the car. Oh my God!”
Alexis posted the incredible clip on Instagram and had this to say about her unconventional birth story: “There was something beyond special, about getting to deliver my own baby,” she wrote. “No doctors or nurses, no lights, or busy people, no one interrupting a moment that should be the most special moments for families as they bring life into the world. The pain was there, but the joy and peace that followed in those minutes we got to spend alone with our sweet girl was more rewarding then anything I could have asked for.”
“I honestly think that God allowed me to deliver safely in the car, instead of making it to the hospital, because He knew that my desire for a birth that was without interruption and full of hormones between baby and I, that desire was so deep. And something that the hospital just couldn’t provide for me. I witnessed my body take over and a baby be born into my hands.”
