It had been scheduled for a singer to sing the national anthem before the game between Kansa and West Virginia University could take place. Unfortunately, the invited singer was stuck in traffic and that is when police Officer Carlton Smith was requested to do the singing.
Leslie Dorchester was the scheduled singer and during an interview she revealed that the bad snowstorm which had hit West Virginia on Tuesday was responsible for her delay. She revealed to the INSIDE EDITION that she had even tried to run after parking her car at the road side but she could not make it.
It was after it was confirmed that she could not make it in time that Carlton Smith was remembered. On that day, he was in the house working in the security section. He must have been remembered because he was a former American Idol’s contestant.
They approached him and told him they needed a favor of singing the anthem. As if that was not enough, they needed the favor done in about 5 minutes time. Though a cop by profession, singing has always been his passion and after the auditions at American Idol back in 2014, he had got a ticket to Hollywood.
