Ohio State Highway Patrol Private Eric Devers received a Certificate of Achievement on August 13, 2015 for saving the life of a truck driver who crashed after he died in his truck.

Private Devers found the driver strapped to the driver’s seat, breathing slowly, panting, with half-closed eyelids.

“After a short time, the driver’s eyes returned to his head; he collapsed and stopped breathing,” the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

“A bystander who stopped to assist Cavalier Devers held the driver upright while Cavalier Devers performed chest compressions until EMS arrived.”

“In total, Private Devers was at the scene for 12 minutes before medical personnel arrived, at which time the driver began breathing on his own and calmed down,” the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

They added that the driver was taken to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
