A Massachusetts special education teacher transcends the call of duty when she adopts a 14-year-old student with Down’s Syndrome after her mother died of cancer. Jane Manning and her son, Jake, moved to Massachusetts and immediately contacted Jake’s teacher, Keri.
As they all grew closer, it was obvious that there was a special relationship between Keri and Jake.
Keri, 52, did not hesitate to offer her help if Jane could no longer take care of her son. Keri said she was willing to be Jake’s legal guardian because she knew none of Jane’s family would be able to give Jake what he needed.
Since Keri knew that Jane was worried about what would happen to Jake after cancer claimed her life, she wanted reassurance as she battled the disease.
Jake was a natural candidate for the Keri family. In addition to her supportive husband, Keri’s family also includes three children. Prior to Jane’s death, Jake spent a lot of time with the family, even spending the night at their home.
Jane sadly breathed her last on November 13. Jake moved in with the Bremer family the same day as Parents Report Today. The family is now committed to ensuring that Jake feels his mother’s presence even after her death.
