Organizations like Safe Haven Baby Box, known for their educational TikTok content about infant surrender laws in various states, have been raising awareness among the public. Founder Monica Kelsey shared in a post her personal experience of being “abandoned” by her birth mother due to a lack of resources for a safe surrender.
Due to the actions of individuals like Scott and the cooperation of authorities, both the mother and the infant from El Patron are now under improved protection. Initially denying being the baby’s mother, the young teen later revealed that her parents had decided to care for the child after learning about her pregnancy.
Scott demonstrated understanding of the teenager’s potential challenges, stating, “I didn’t know she was 14 years old when she dropped the baby off to me … We don’t know what she went through. We don’t know how she ended up in that state.” Commenters on Scott’s original video also expressed compassion, with one person stating:
“So glad she chose to give the baby away and not throw it away. She is adorable. I believe she felt stuck and did the right thing. But she clearly loved the baby. So sad.”
Another commenter mentioned:
“That wasn’t heartless or cold. We don’t know what or why she found it necessary to give her baby away. There was probably not a place nearby that could be considered a safe haven place.”
Fortunately, the resolution turned out positively for all parties involved
