Portsmouth City in New Hampshire is known for its rich history in shipping and maritime. It has a beautiful waterfront that serves as a major port for boats and ships close to 400 years.  It is the city with the first Naval shipping yard in the U.S.

The residents take pride in their history and culture. They share stories of their community, thanks to the Portsmouth Maritime Festival established in 1999. They use downtown Portsmouth as their venue for storytelling and performing folk songs sharing about their maritime history.

David Coffin’s performance of 2000 is still fresh in most people’s mind. His video of singing has gone viral since it was posted on YouTube receiving over 2.5 million views.

David steps into the crowd’s center and begins singing “Roll the Old Chariot”. Moments later, the crowd joins in unison. In the song, they convey an imagery of the sailors working together on the ship’s deck.

Watch the video below and see why people loved David’s impressive performance. I am impressed and cannot get enough of the performance.
