Jarman was pleasantly surprised when Virgil asked her to be his prom date. Seeking special permission from the school principal, Virgil and his mom arranged for Jarman, his grandmother, to accompany him to the prom. Although the school typically doesn’t allow individuals above 21 years old to attend, an exception was made for Virgil and Jarman.
Upon entering the venue, Jarman was bestowed with a tiara and a custom-made sash. The prom held special significance as it coincided with the eve of Virgil’s 92nd birthday. Demonstrating her thoughtfulness, Jarman chose a blue dress to complement her grandson’s vest and bow tie.
During the event, Virgil arranged for the DJ to play one of Jarman’s favorite songs, Elvis Presley’s classic hit ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love.’ They shared a dance, and Virgil recounted, “She almost had me crying as she was singing it along with me while we were dancing.”
The prom became a cherished memory for both Jarman and Virgil. Reflecting on the night, Virgil expressed, “I won’t forget that night with my grandmother.”
Prior to the prom, Virgil and Jarman enjoyed a week-long trip to Florida, courtesy of the Dream Foundation—an organization that fulfills the wishes of the terminally ill.
