Anyone who has been married will tell you that marriage is not always easy. Anyone who has ever been divorced will tell you that divorce isn’t easy either. That’s why it’s really necessary to make sure you really want to get married before making it legal.
We can’t even imagine what marriage and divorce should look like in public. Famous couples face a whole different level of drama and stress in their relationships. While some famous couples’ relationships stand the test of time, others don’t. An example is the marriage of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.
Affleck and Garner began dating in 2004 and married in 2005. After ten years and three children, they split in 2015 and ended their divorce in 2018. Those are the facts, but what really happened?
Affleck and Garner remain friends for the sake of their children. They were spotted together attending their children’s events. They also got louder and louder about what it was like to get married.
Garner said it was like a “circus” when she married Affleck. Fame and the resulting paparazzi made it impossible for them to even attempt a normal life for their children.
After her divorce, Affleck entered rehab. He knew he had to stop drinking. He suffered from alcoholism long before he started dating Garner.
Affleck does not regret the divorce. He thinks he would have struggled with alcohol if he hadn’t left the marriage. He explained: “And you know what, we were probably at each other’s throats. Maybe I was still drinking alcohol — and that’s one of the reasons I started drinking — because I was trapped.”
Affleck is no longer “stuck” in his marriage to Garner. He recently rekindled the flame with his longtime friend Jennifer Lopez.
Are you surprised that Affleck has called her marriage to Garner “trapped”? Would you believe they would still be married if he found another outlet for stress besides alcohol?
