While a family enjoyed a beautiful afternoon by the pool, on holiday in Africa, they got the surprise of their life when an unexpected guest turned up and joined in the pool party.
Lying by the pool and taking a leisurely swim is often the part of a holiday that most people look forward to and envisage before they go. As this family enjoyed their vacation at the Elephant Sands in Botswana, they had a visitor gatecrash their pool time, making for a holiday moment they would never forget.
Hearing a rustling in the bushes, the family braced themselves for whatever creature may come their way and unbelievably, out of the bushes stepped a gentle giant; an elephant. The enormous creature walked casually up to the pool side and, after assessing the humans as safe to be near, it joined in the fun.
The magnificent creature lowered its trunk into the water and began to drink from the pool, while the family remained in the water, watching in awe. The people stayed as still and calm as possible so as not to scare off the beautiful creature and to enjoy the moment for as long as possible.
Once the elephant had refreshed itself, it looked to the humans as if acknowledging them and thanking them for allowing it to drink from their pool. It then promptly turned to return to the wilderness, waving its ears almost like a wave goodbye. I bet the family couldn’t believe their luck!
Visitors to the resort had been told that sometimes elephants came to drink from the pools; the water is clean and chlorine-free for this reason. So luckily the family had their phone nearby to be able to film the whole amazing encounter as it happened. It is an absolutely amazing moment and I watched it with my mouth agape the whole time.
