Little Addie was born with a rare condition called Larsen’s Syndrome, a congenital condition that affects the knees, hips and elbows. The disease caused some of Ade’s bones to twist. She has club feet and although she can run and walk, Addie is unable to bend her knees.
The beloved child, as a result of the illness, underwent many important medical procedures at Texas Scottish Wright Hospital. The hospital is world famous for its highly trained orthopedic staff, as well as its refusal to turn away patients due to lack of ability to pay.
Addie knew the treatment she received at Scottish Rite was life changing and wanted to find a way to give back. It was then that Addie decided she would give it a shot. The determined girl nodded and walked to the corner. The sign reads: “My birthday wish is to raise $8,000 for the Texas Scottish Rite for Children!”
The girl raised the initial $8,000 she had hoped for, but fate had more in store for Addie. Her story caught national media attention! The total donations received, after Ady secured several media interviews, topped $19,000. The story just got more impressive from there.
Stephanie Brigger, Vice President of Development at Scottish Rite, received a donation in the post on Addie’s behalf. The donation was a check for $50,000. Imagine Addie’s surprise! The anonymous donor had seen pictures of Addy standing and running. His gift is equivalent to many molds and many prosthetic devices. Every little gesture counts.
Adi is really happy to be able to help. She thinks the kids there will be happier and maybe they can get out of the hospital sooner.
