Aaron and Ben’s journey to become parents was an emotional rollercoaster. As the birth mother was often far away from them, they could not always control external circumstances. Despite this, they were able to hold their daughter, Charlotte Ptashinsky-Skinner, when she was born on July 28, 2017. The dads fell in love with her instantly and felt enriched by her presence.
Ben stated that their lives were now enriched with this “beam of light” that gave them purpose every day. They could still enjoy everything they did before but now had a new meaning to their lives. The fathers were grateful to have a loving and supportive family system around them. With the help of their mother-in-law and nanny, they were just like any other family when it came to dealing with stress.
Aaron explained that they worked hard to be great husbands, which in turn made them great dads. Their sexual orientation was never the topic of conversation; they were simply a family. The gift of becoming parents brought them closer to their own individual families, and they were blessed to see the family come together and just love.
Despite the emotional journey to become parents, Aaron and Ben now have a family filled with love, support, and purpose. Their journey shows that love knows no boundaries, and that being a family is all about the love and support that one gives to each other.
